Texas is the only state to have three presidential libraries. But what is a presidential library and what purpose does it serve? And why did each president choose to put his where it is?

The directors of the three presidential libraries in Texas will discuss the role of their institutions and the presidents they represent at a free forum on Tuesday, May 14, at Rice University's Baker Institute in Houston. The discussion will be moderated by Ambassador Edward P. Djerejian, founding director of the Baker Institute.

This interactive forum is the first of the three-part, multicity series "Lone Star Treasures: The Presidential Libraries of Texas," sponsored by The Texas Tribune. During these events, presidential library directors will discuss how their institutions preserve history, facilitate research and education, and contribute to their communities through public programs and special events.

The directors of the three presidential libraries of Texas are: Warren L. Finch, George Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University in College Station; Mark K. Updegrove, LBJ Presidential Library at The University of Texas at Austin; and Alan C. Lowe, George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
