Texas lawmakers introduced hundreds of new laws during the 2023 legislative session, with the GOP-controlled chambers passing — or failing to pass — key legislation that will impact the health and safety of children across the state. The discussion ranged across the successes and failures of bills related to vaccines, access to care, Medicaid, transgender care, early childhood education, immunization requirements, foster care and more. Our expert guests also broke down what the new laws mean for both care providers and children moving forward.
Featured guests included Rekha Lakshmanan, a nonresident scholar at the Baker Institute Center for Health and Biosciences and the chief strategy officer at The Immunization Partnership, Mandi Kimball, vice president and director of public policy and government affairs for Children at Risk, and Clayton Travis, the director of advocacy and health policy at Texas Pediatric Society.
This event was co-sponsored by the Baker Institute Child Health Policy Program and the Science and Technology Policy Program.
