On June 2, 2024, Mexico held the largest election in its history, resulting in a continuation of the López Obrador national project under his chosen successor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. She will serve as president from Oct. 1, 2024 to Sept. 30, 2030.
Sheinbaum inherits a series of urgent challenges: tightening fiscal landscape, increasing levels of corruption, a stagnant economy marked by rising poverty and inequality, declining investment, the crisis in the U.S.-Mexico border, and underfunding in key areas like health, education, infrastructure, and research. If the Sheinbaum administration takes decisive steps to adjust policies and address these challenges, there is potential to put the country back on a stable path. However, without proactive measures for reform, Mexico's future remains uncertain.
At this event, a panel of experts explored the current landscape in Mexico at the close of the López Obrador administration, the opportunities and risks facing Sheinbaum’s presidency, and the key policy shifts needed to move the country toward a more stable and prosperous future.
