Across the country, firearm-related injuries and deaths are on the rise — especially among youth and young adults. The increasing number of adolescents experiencing mental health issues and the surge in homicides, unintentional shootings and school-based violence are among the factors contributing to the record number of deaths. This symposium highlighted local research efforts in firearm injury prevention, public health-based community interventions and innovative strategies to address firearm injury and violence in the greater Houston area and beyond. The event culminated in a panel discussion with local health leaders to inform policy and community-based solutions.

This event was co-sponsored by the Baker Institute Center for Health and BiosciencesBaylor College of Medicine and UTHealth Houston. Additional support was provided by the University of Texas Medical Branch's Center for Violence Prevention.
