Society's perceptions of beauty, health, success and happiness are framed by a popular culture that is increasingly disconnected from reality. Research shows that celebrity endorsements overwhelmingly influence people's health decisions and goals, that children’s ambitions are shaped by fantasies of fame, and that our ideals of beauty and success are framed by a celebrity-dominated worldview. The celebrity brand is at once the most desired state of being and one of the most socially problematic. Timothy Caulfield, international health policy scholar and author of “The Cure for Everything,” will examine what this emerging evidence tells us about the influence of popular culture on beliefs about health, well-being and science.

A reception will follow the presentation. This event is co-sponsored by the Baker Institute Science and Technology Policy Program and the Health Policy Forum. Support for the event is generously provided by the State of Qatar Endowment for International Stem Cell Policy.
