Biography
Dalton R. George, Ph.D., is a visiting postdoctoral scholar in science and technology policy at Rice University’s Baker Institute. His research in the field of science, technology, and society studies focuses on social dimensions and science-related policy issues for synthetic biology. His current project studies next-generation biocontainment techniques and regulatory challenges for environmental and agricultural applications of genetically engineered microbes.
Prior to his postdoctoral work, George was an National Science Foundation National Research Traineeship Fellow at North Carolina State’s Genetic Engineering and Society Center, where his research focused on public engagement and approaches to responsible research and innovation. He has published research on various social and policy issues related to emerging environmental and agricultural biotechnologies, including the transgenic American chestnut, gene drive technology, and gene-edited crops.
George received his B.S. from Michigan State University, an M.S. from Drexel University, and a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University. In addition to his post at the Baker Institute, he also holds a postdoctoral appointment at Arizona State University’s School for the Future of Innovation and Society.
