Biography
Dr. Roberto Durán-Fernández is a nonresident scholar at the Center for the U.S. and Mexico and lectures at the School of Government at Tec de Monterrey. He is an experienced economist with a background in academia, the private sector, and public service. His academic credentials include degrees from ITAM, the London School of Economics, and Oxford.
Durán-Fernández has held positions at Evercore and McKinsey & Co., and he worked in Mexico's Ministry of Finance. His expertise focuses on public policy, finance, and economic development. He has consulted for various national and subnational governments in the Global South, assisting them in mobilizing finance for inclusive and equitable development initiatives.
Recently, he has shifted his focus to building a more resilient economic system in the post-COVID era, emphasizing the relocalization of global supply chains and developing strategies for emergency response financing. His collaborative efforts include partnerships with organizations such as the World Health Organization, the United Nations, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and CAF - Latin American Development Bank. He also serves as a Global Ambassador to the G20 G7 Health and Development Partnership and as a commissioner at Consejo Nuevo León.
