Biography
Sana Patel, Ph.D. is a postdoctoral fellow at the Baker Institute for Public Policy. A distinguished scholar of digital Islam and religious authority online, she explores the role of artificial intelligence in Muslim communities and examines how Islamophobia manifests in online spaces, shaping global anti-Muslim experiences.
Her research interests also include (non)religion, religious diversity, immigration, and digital religion. Patel's publications include “Religion and Media in Canada” (2021), “Hybrid Imams: Young Muslims and Religious Authority on Social Media” (2021), and “Islamophobia in North America” (2025). She holds a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of Ottawa and an M.A. in Religion and Public Life from Carleton University.
