It is with profound sadness and deepest regard that the Baker Institute and Director David M. Satterfield note the passing of diplomat Martin S. Indyk.
Indyk was an exceptional public figure. As senior director for Near East and South Asian affairs at the National Security Council, assistant secretary for Near Eastern affairs, and twice ambassador to Israel, his leadership and impact — notably on Arab-Israel peace — was extraordinary.
As founder of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and a distinguished fellow with the Brookings Institute and Council on Foreign Relations, Indyk’s incisive analyses and policy recommendations were always trenchant, with the advancement and strategic interests of the United States, his adopted country, and its partners as their principle.
May his memory be a blessing.
